The birth of Sac Valley Chorus.......
It all began in 1979 when 3 women met in the living room of the home of Carolyn Davey, one of the founders of Sacramento Valley Chorus. The founding members were Carolyn Davey, Dar Haag, Jackie Wisecarver and Mary Alice Myers.

M. A., as she is affectionally known, became the director of the chorus which grew rapidly with young talented singers. Their goal was to build a chorus of talented musicians so those who joined them had to meet the qualification standards. They weren't interested in adding members just to become a large chorus. As they grew they prepared for chartering the chorus.
Ten years later, in 1989, Sacramento Valley Chorus won the Region 12 Chorus Competition and began their journey to International Competition held in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Sweet Harmony is a documentary that follows the Sacramento Valley barbershop chorus to the 1990 International Sweet Adelines competition in Salt Lake City, Utah. From practice to the international stage this program highlights these amazing women who sing barbershop music. Sweet Harmony aired on PBS and won an AFI Robert M. Bennett award for best local production.

After that competition MA moved to southern California. SVC worked with their new director, Patty Easley for several years. (1999-2006) In 2000, when Camellia City Chorus folded (after 35 years of existence) many of the members transferred to Sacramento Valley, Some went to Voice of the Valley, another chorus founded by M.A. , Some became CAL members and others moved on to other activities.
M.A. also directed a chorus in Davis called Cycle City. Eventually it also folded and some members from that chorus joined SVC or VOV. When Voice of the Valley Chorus folded many of their members, some originally from CCC, transferred to SVC, bringing with them their old and new friends from VOV.
In 2006 Lynne Erickson was hired to continue leading us on our journey. (2006-2016) For the next ten years the chorus continued to work toward their goals to pursue musical excellence and provide performance and educational opportunities to our members and the community. The chorus has welcomed musically talented women, women of all ages and women of all faiths and ethnicities. All of these women came with an interest in singing 4 part a cappella barbershop style music and met the qualifications to do so.
Over the years many other members have come and gone. Some have come from other choruses, heard of SVC via word of mouth from friends, acquaintances or former members, saw us in performance mode and / or found us via social media, such as Meet UP, Many became interested in being part of the group thanks to one or more sources of media coverage. Some elected to become dual members from other choruses in our region.
As we have grown in size and ability we have attracted other women who are looking for a place where they can get good vocal training, sing with a group that performs at a high level, and has created a sequined sisterhood that cares for and supports its members in many ways.
See the list of the awards we have won over the years.
