Mary Ann Barrick
Mary Ann Barrick, 67, passed away on October 22 in Modesto after a lengthy battle with lung disease. Mary Anne was born in Mason City, Iowa. She moved with her family to Modesto from Iowa in 1953 and graduated from Thomas Downey High School. She was united in marriage to Kenneth R. Barrick in 1976 and was a school bus driver for Storer Transportation for 14 years before retiring in 1988.
She once wrote, I'm not ready to quit or give up yet. Though she had many heath problems, those never slowed her down or crushed her obvious love for life. Mary Ann enjoyed volunteering, painting, cooking, traveling and loved playing board games. She was also an avid collector of antiques and was always interested in gardening. She was an active member of the the Modesto Garden Club and Modesto Free Methodist Church.
Mary had a life long passion for music, belonging to various groups of the Sweet Adelines over a 45-year period. She was most recently a member of the Sacramento Valley Chapter. She was a petite, but mighty Baritone (have box - will sing). In addition to the many miles she traveled each week between Modesto and Sacramento Mary Ann was a very busy volunteer within the chorus. In 2006 Mary Ann became a STAR member because she could no longer be an active participant in the chorus.
She had a loving, caring heart which was known by anyone who had the pleasure of being a part of her life. As a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she did everything that she could to help and just spend time with her family and friends. She kept her family together and always put them first.
She truly was an amazing and thoughtful person. We will miss her ready smile, her musical contribution to the chorus, and her friendship for all around her!
