Retired U.C. Davis Student Health Nurse, Amy Jones, passed away November 21, 2011 at Woodland Memorial Hospital.
Born September 4, 1941 in Dixon, Illinois to Gerald and Marion Cahill Jones, Amy attended kindergarten and elementary school there. In 1955, her family moved to San Mateo, California, where she graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1959.
In 1962, Amy graduated from St. Vincent's College of Nursing in Los Angeles. She then was employed at UCLA Medical Center, while living in Los Angeles and Santa Monica.
Amy came to Woodland in June 1969, where she worked as office nurse for Family Practice Doctors Blevens and Newman. In 1973, she began working at U.C. Davis Student Health Center and continued there until retiring in 2001.
Amy enjoyed singing with Sweet Adelines in Woodland, Davis, and finally with the Sacramento Valley Chorus until problems with her vocal chords did not allow it. She remained their biggest fan and a good friend. Amy enjoyed dogs, bird watching, and maintaining friendships with everyone she met.
Amy was survived by: her dog, Casey, her sister Judi and brother-in-law, Dick, her niece Erin (& Ben), her great-niece, Chloe, her step-children, Jennifer (& Robert), Rebecca, Cindy (& Eric), and Clifford, and step grandchildren, Krista and Whitney.
A celebration of Amy's life was celebrated on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Woodland Community and Senior Center, 2001 East Street, Woodland. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that you send donations to Doctors without Borders, the Humane Society of America, or a charity of your choice."
