We really miss Joan Bippus Seabury's beautiful face and smile and her lovely lead voice from our back row. Joan joined Sweet Adelines in 1993, when she became a member of Camellia City Chorus. She remained there for seven years and then moved to Voice of the Valley Chorus where she sang for about two years. She was CAL for awhile and then joined SVC for a total of about 7 1/2 years. Joan has always sung lead. She sang in Singing Valentine quartets only. Joan was a tape checker and/or section leader at all three choruses. She was on the management team at VOV and she filled in for a year on the SVC board after Sue Nickerson passed away. Joan handled Entertainment Book sales at all three choruses for several years. Her most special memories of Sweet Adelines are of the friends she has made. When Joan's first husband, Dick, passed away in 2003, she said, "I could not have anticipated the love and support the chorus gave me. What a wonderful organization! I actually miss the people more than I miss the music." Joan's family consists of one son who lives in Galt with his wife and teenage son and daughter. She was married to Dick, a career law enforcement officer for 40 years. In April 2010 Joan was remarried to Tom Seabury, a Bay Area transplant and electrical engineer, who lives in Nevada City. In addition, she now has three step-children and spouses and four step-grandchildren, all of whom live in the Bay Area. Joan has kept her home in Citrus Heights so she can come home frequently to visit friends and neighbors and SVC. Joan enjoys traveling, cruising, gardening, shopping, barbershop, Dixieland jazz, having lunch with old friends, and spending time with her family.
