The award winning, high energy Sacramento Valley Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, is a women’s singing group specializing in four-part harmony, a cappella singing in the barbershop style. We offer a wide variety of music and styles, from jazz, blues and ballads to Broadway Show tunes, complete with dazzling costumes and exciting choreography.
Membership in this 70 voice group includes women from all walks of life who live in the greater Sacramento area. Our members are teachers, nurses, homemakers, managers, accountants, lawyers and students. Women of all ages and ethnicity are welcome. The organization includes activities for our young women, as well.
The Sacramento Valley Chorus, chartered on October 30, 1979, has enjoyed success in our annual competitions, where choruses compete and are judged in the categories of Sound, Music, Expression and Showmanship. In 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2007 Sacramento Valley received 2nd place medals at our Regional Competition held right in our hometown of Sacramento! We have consistently placed in the top 4 and in 1989 won first place at Regional Competition, qualifying us for International finals where we placed 6th in 1990. In 2001 we competed in the International Education Symposium Harmony Classic, where we placed 4th in Division AA.
Known for excellent vocal production and energized sound, the Sacramento Valley Chorus has had the opportunity to perform at Cal-Expo, a Sacramento Kings game, the Grand Opening of the Convention Center and the re-opening of the Marines Memorial Auditorium. In the past, Sacramento Valley Chorus also had the opportunity to sing at the widely renowned Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, in the "Ladies of Jazz" venue at the Crest Theater. In 2002 the Sacramento Valley Chorus was named the Best Singing Group with more than 100 people by Sacramento Magazine.
Currently, our performances include our Singing Valentines program in February, our Regional Competition in Reno in April, our Annual Show in October/November, our Christmas Show with the men barbershoppers in December, and our holiday performances which include performances at Arden Fair Mall, the Capitol Rotunda and nursing homes. This year we added a performance in the Community Center before the presentation of the Nutcracker Suite. Our small chorus, the "Extension Chords" and our quartets perform throughout the year for organizations and private parties. Our performances are full of energy and excitement, guaranteed to entertain!
Sacramento Valley Chorus is a diverse group of women who love to sing four part a cappella harmony while pursuing musical excellence and providing performance and educational opportunity to our members and the community.
